Weekend, Bakery Love and HELP!

Shall we recap the weekend? Yes, I thought so too!

Fri Night: Went out to dinner with friends and their 2 kids. I got an AMAZING salad at a place called Crisp. So freakin good. Then the husband went to a concert, the kids went to bed and Leah and I made chocolate muffins and ate them warm with Hagen Daaz BAILEYS ice cream on top. Amazing. We also watched He's Just Not that Into You. Cute, but nothing amazing. I got home at 1am! LATE night for Jeannie.

Saturday: Boot camp, nap, pool...So nice! Then a bunch of friends and myself met uptown for a fun night out! We went to Taste of Charlotte which is a big street fair with all the CLT restaurants so you can taste their food. Then we went bowling at a new nice bowling alley. It was a BLAST! I was driving so I didn't drink but every one else got quite trashed and it was hysterical. I'm so happy to have friends in Charlotte!

Sunday: The pup let me sleep in until 9:30!! OMG it was amazing. I dog parked it up and then hit up the slightly ghetto but cheap grocery store, then hit up the POOL. It was great. Just hung out in the pool and chatted with peeps.

Then came more fun.... A friend and I decided to go to this amazing bakery for dinner. Yes, a bakery for dinner. It's called Amelies. It is my new favorite place in all of Charlotte. It is SO adorable... and open 24/7!!!! WHAT??? It was a lovely impromptu girls night out. It's a french bakery and they have baguettes, croissants, EVERY baked good, and home made soups and sammies. I got a roasted turkey sammie. It was cheddar, turkey, crisp bacon, herbs de provance, olive oil mayo on a croissant... all grilled up and toasted. Holy heck. Orgasmic. Then I had a caramel salted brownie for dessert. And my total came to 7 bucks. WHAT? Cheap. Adorable. Delicious. And open all the time. Yup, I'm in love. If you are even in Charlotte be sure to go. You won't regret it. Even if your meal has a jillion calories.

Ok moving onto the HELP section of today's post. This weekend I'm heading to my aunt's beach house in South Jersey. It's just going to be all of the cousins though. It should be a blast -- we're all quite close. Anyway, one of the couples is getting together a little trivia game. I need to come up with some trivia questions about myself (which you're more than welcome to help with... but really I should be able to handle that), but then I need to come up with a 'challenge' of some sort. Here are the instructions:
The other thing that we need you to do is to create some kind of group challenge. There will be five teams playing (4 of 2 and 1 of 3). Your group challenge could use 1 person from each team or everyone all together or something in between... whatever will work for your challenge. Note: your challenge does not have to be about you. I imagine that with this group I don't need to tell anyone what kind of challenges will work but for the heck of it, I will say that it could be anything from a jello eating contest to a physical challenge to a name-that-tune quiz to a bird trapping contest (although I would not recommend that last one unless you are me or Stevie, since we have experience and we will rock it a little too hard). You should write out the directions to your challenge as well (also not showing anyone) and you should bring / create any 'props' that are necessary to execute it.

So bring on your brilliant challenge ideas! Get creative and help me out here!

Thorn Birded

I've been walking around with my head stuck in a book the past few days. I know... it's so unlike me. But when a coworker (turned friend... love that!) found out that I had my very own 'priest scandal' in my family she was both shocked and appalled (no, not that there had been a priest scandal in my family but...) that I'd never read or seen The Thorn Birds. It's a 500 some page epic novel and a lot of it is a little Jane Eyre-esque in that there are just full pages of descriptive stuff. I'm more into books for the dialogue. Let's be honest, 97.3% of the books I read are beach read romances. But I just skip over the descriptive stuff. I don't really need 6 pages on the weather patterns of Australia. But I digress...

Said friend told me to give it to page 100 and if I wasn't hooked then I was allowed to just watch the mini series. But alas, I got to page 100 and have been forging on ever since. I'm totally smitten with Father Ralph for those of you who do know the story. I'm on page 319 and am hoping to finish soon because it's due back at the library in a few days. Oh the pressure!

But moving onto to food and stuff. I finally (kind of) remembered to do weekend food pictures! I had some good eats. And by good I mean naughty! heehee. Check them out here if you feel so inclined.

Triathlon #1 is less than a month away. It's on June 27 to be exact. Eeekads. Let's move onto another topic before I stress myself out too much. (Have I mentioned I haven't been on my bike since FEBRUARY?)

Yesterday I went to Sonic for the first time. I've seen commercials for this place my entire life. They run tv ads in Philly even though there isn't a sonic within 50 miles of where I grew up. And then I moved south where there are plenty, but I was always scared/intimidated by it because I didn't know how the 'drive up' worked. But it was really quite fun. The server even brought the food to our car sporting some sweet roller skates.

Tonight I'm hitting up the Melting Pot for half price cheese and chocolate fondu. Be jealous. Be very jealous.

Boot Camp has been going well this week. I have mastered balancing on the swiss ball. It's so fun to be the best at something there. Because let's be honest, other than the swiss ball I'm still the slowest at a lot of the stuff we do (especially running). Remember the night I actually cried at boot camp because I was the weakest and slowest? Well I may still be the slowest but now I use the heaviest weights out of all the girls! It's an amazing feeling.

And as for TV, is anyone else as geeked up for this season of So You Think You Can Dance as I am? I love this summer time show. I can afford to have a 2 night TV show in the summer since there's nothing else on. So tonight, after I indulge in a healthy serving of fondu I'll be watching that. It doesn't get any better than this folks!

Charlotte Restaurant Week

It's Restaurant Week here in Charlotte. Which basically means a bunch of nicer restaurants offer 3 or 4 course meals for a set price of 30 bucks. It's SUCH a good deal! I had plans to meet up with 2 friends that I hadn't seen in a while for sushi... but we decided to skip sushi and chose a place that was doing Restaurant Week. We went to Black Finn. It's a new place in uptown Charlotte that none of us had been to.

The full RW menu is listed here. Feel free to check it out. Totally insane.

We had reservations at 6:30 which was perfect. I had time to go home, change play with the pup a little and head out. We had such a great time -- just did lots of laughing... AND EATING!!! First course I got the soup du jour (I LOVE a soup du jour) it was a minestrone. It wasn't all that amazing, but it was good. And it came with those little oyster crackers which I LOVE! It was a small bowl and I ate half. Then the app... CHEESE STICKS! They were wanton wrappers filled with 3 kinds of cheese and then deep fried served with some marinara. They were quite good. Though part of me was missing the breaded fried goodness of real mozz sticks. I ate 3 out of the FIVE! The portion was crazy. Though they weren't that big. Then the entree... FILLET!!!!! (I should mention that I've never in my life ordered a steak. I'd never even eaten it until Christmas when I tried it and fell in love. I've always been a ground beef only as far as red meat is concered. All that has changed. I officially heart filet mignon.) It was a beautiful, perfectly round 8 oz piece of meat. It had peppercorns and other spices on top. I got it medium and it was a BIT pink in the middle for me but I ate around that. It literally melted in my mouth. HOW DID I NOT LIKE THIS BEFORE? It was so good. All 3 of us got it! It came with new potatoes and some sort of glazed carrots. I asked for steamed broc instead of the carrots but of course it came out with the carrots anyway. I didn't send it back because it wasnt that much of a big deal. I ate 1/2 the fillet, about 1/3 of the carrots and 1/2 the potatoes. There really weren't many potatoes or carrots at all. I have the middle of the fillet leftover and I plan on doing something fun with it tonight. Like slice it and make a quesadilla or something with it. More on that later. Then it was dessert. I was leaning towards the apple pie but couldn't decide so I asked the server what her recommended. He said the choc cake hands down. So I got it. I should have gone with the apple pie. The cake was SO heavy and like moussey and there was no ice cream or anything to balance out all of the chocolate. The apple pie looked SO much lighter and had a small dollop of ice cream on top. I ate like 4 bites of the cake (mostly the actual cake part which was the crust the rest was heavy mouse/pudding stuff) and that was that.

I was most certainly super full when I finished but I wasn't STUFFED. I drank about 4 glasses of water and passed on wine or beer. It was perfect! And 30 bucks! The fillet alone was 24.99 on the menu. SCORE!!!!!

So anyway... I'm thinking for dinner tonight of slicing the beef and just heating it up in a skillet. Then using a sammy thin and doing a panini type thing. Sautee up some spinach and then throw on some cheese and heat it all up. I think that would be amazing! We'll see but I think that's the plan. Also there's a blood drive across the street tomorrow and my iron is always low. They tell me to eat RED MEAT and SPINACH the night before giving blood to up my iron... so this would be perfect!

bfast:
cereal w/ 1/2 banana and milk - 5

Snack:
vitamuffin - 1

Lunch:
chili lime chicken burger w/ couscous - 5
TJs soup - 1

Snacks:
hummus w/ sammy thin and carrots - 2
applesauce - 0
rice cakes - 1

Snack pre boot camp:
handful of trail mix - 2

Dinner:
sammy thin, light cheese, 4 oz filet, spinach - 7
I feel like I need something else with it but have no idea what!!

Snack:
a WW lemon cake - 1

Thats over my poitns but I'll have APs. I just estimated my points from dinner last night... 27 JUST FOR DINNER! So I officially have TWO flex points left for the week. But I do have APs that I haven't tapped into yet so that's good. I'm going to try to stay under 25 points until Saturday. Should be doable.

Short and Sweet

Most of my eats for the day are posted here. Other than mindlessly eating some trail mix I did pretty well! No work out today though... but back to some hard core boot camp tomorrow so I'm not all that worried.

I didn't really have a choice in where I was going to dinner. It was a first date with a guy from eHarmony and I told him he had to pick the place (I hate making decisions). He chose Italian. Both good and bad. Good because it was close to my house and well who doesn't like Italian? Bad because uhh not too healthy.

Let's start with the small victories. I got my dressing for the house salad on the side. I just got the house balsamic. And didn't really even end up using much -- just dipped in it. The salad (minus the 1/4 tsp of dressing) was totally free. Pretty much just iceberg lettuce and one piece of tomato. It was a funny salad. Also, and this is a huge also, I didn't eat any bread!!!! This is usually my downfall. I can't resist bread but I did tonight. I knew my meal would be more than filling.

For my entree I got the following:
Capellini Primavera
Sautéed zucchini and other vegetables with a light cream sauce over angel hair pasta

I was trying to steer clear of a cream sauce but it was pretty hard. There really were not all that many healthy choices on this menu! So I figured at least this one had veggies. It was heavenly. Though not nearly as heavy on the veggies as I'd like. The serving was massive. I ate about 1/3 of it and stopped when I was full. Also a major victory. I can probably get 2 more meals out of the leftovers. I figure I'll have some for dinner tomorrow night and most likely throw the rest out. I don't need to be eating THAT much cream sauce... even if it is 'light' ha! I estimated my dinner to be 12 points. It's a total estimate but I figure since I only ate 1/3 that means the whole dish would be 36 points which seems to be an ok estimate. Even with a 12 point dinner I still only used 4 flex points. I still have plenty for the week. I LOVE when I'm on plan on the weekends. Just makes it that much easier to keep up the good work during the week.

And also... the date went well :)

In other news I get to sleep in a bit tomorrow because I have an appt at the derm tomorrow at 9.15. So instead of leaving the house at 8:15 I get to leave at 8:45. Score!

... I titled this Short and Sweet because I thought it was going to be a quick post. It totally wasnt. Sorry for the false advertisement.

My thoughts on yoga

The cupcakes are gone. And no... I didn't eat anymore. I let my coworkers polish them off. Whew!

It's cold, rainy and DREARY here today!!! Also STILL NO GAS here in Charlotte! I only have 1/4 tank... eeeeeek! Hopefully a shipment comes in today or I may be in trouble. Ugh.

In workout news, I went to boot camp after work last night. It was drizzling, windy as heck and a bit cold. But it was a fun team workout. There were 5 of us and we had to pick 4 out of 7 exercises (we chose flutter kicks, step ups on the bleacher, lat pulls w/ band and planks). Then one person on the team had to run and touch 35 trees that were around the soccer field (prob the distance of a 1.25 laps around) and while that person was doing that everyone else was set up at 1 of the 4 stations. They had to do their exercise until the runner got back! And then you swapped so someone else would run and you'd move through the stations. It SUCKED because I'm the slowest runner but whatever I did my best. And I didn't walk at all... some other dude walked a bit the last time around. After BC I got home, made dinner, fed the dogs, did a load of laundry, packed my lunch, cleaned, watched 1/2 of the office and was in bed and sound asleep by 9:30. I was so pooped! So I missed Greys and the 2nd half of the office. MAYBE tonight, but I might have to wait until NEXT WEEK! Yikes!!!

I was up this morning at 5:30 for yoga at 6! TB's GF is going to do it every Fri morning. It was inside (Thank God because its POURING) and it was SO HARD!!! I HATE YOGA. Like I'd much rather have to run and do squats and lunges and situps over yoga anyday. I've never liked it but figured since they're offering it I should take them up on it. But I am just not flexible. ESPECIALLY after this week I was tight as anything. I had to do all the 'modified' versions meanwhile the other two chicks were bending like f'in pretzels! Bitches. hahaha. But it was good to go and get another workout in. Now I'm off til Wed morning :) FLORIDA HERE I COME!

I also had the chiro this morning. All adjusted :) YES!

I want to leave work early today. We'll see... maybe just like 4:30 would be great. Tonight I have to pack and get the car all packed up (mainly Maddie's crate and stuff to drop off at Ars). My flight is at 6:40 so I have to leave the house at like 4:50 to drop the dogs off at Ar's by 6:15 to get to the airport by 6:30. EEEEK! But then I can sleep on the plane AND the next 4 days by the beach/pool. HOLLA!

OH... I stopped at Dunkin Donuts this morning to try one of their new flatbread sammies. STUPID ME got the wrong one! It wasnt on the DD Smart menu! I was all flustered and thought I was ordering the egg white/turkey sausage one and somehow ordered the turkey, cheddar and bacon one!!!!!! I felt ILL after eating it. But the actual flat bread was really yummy. The stats weren't HORRIBLE on it and I didn't finish it but so not the yummiest 5 points I ever ate. What a waste!

Menu is up in the air tonight but I'll keep it light. I'll be weighing in tomorrow morning at 4:35am when I get up for the airport! I sure hope I remember or else I'll have Angie on my ass!!!

TGIF!

Friday Fun Day!

Morning. HAPPY FRIDAY! I'm in a good mood today, feeling a bit sore and loving it!

Last night was a good night...I was still SO FREAKIN FULL from lunch (went out and had crappy food that left me feeling icky) that I didn't really eat dinner. I made myself eat a granola bar before going to the gym (Kashi chewy trail mix bar... they're 2 points and I LOVE them) so I didn't pass out on Trainer Boy, but I still really wasn't hungry. Worked out with TB then did 25 minutes walking on the treadmill just to walk out the pain in my quads. I got home and was a little bit hungry so I had a bowl of cinnamon life. I know, I know millions of carbs, but I wasn't about to whip up something at 8pm. I also drank a BOATLOAD of water and sweat like nobody's business at the gym. I usually don't sweat that much when I lift but TB had me doing "super sets" (as he liked to call them) of squats and lunges and I was DRIPPING... it was sexy. I could pretty much ring my t-shirt out by the time I left. Let's hear it for working out in the south! Also, TB is going to just one day a week. He dropped more than half of his clients... but I made the cut! He was like "If you want to keep working out with me, you're going to have to switch to Monday" I made like I was shocked and appalled but then told him that would actually work out better. Soooo I see him on Monday! Which is like 4 days away... I sure hope I can walk.

I'm already ravenous today. Yikes.

Tomorrow I'm working at the Olympic Team Trials at the US National Whitewater center. I think it will be a really fun even if I have to work the WFAE prize wheel the whole time. Booo. But I'll get paid and we have access to the VIP tent so free food and beverages :)

Ok Menu...

Bfast:
whole grain pancakes w/ pb - 4

Lunch - Hopefully we'll go to Lava and I'll get:
Lava salad (cucumbers, lettuce, peps, pumpkin seeds and feta) - 4
soup of the day - 3 or so?

Snacks:
yogurt - 2
grapes - 1
strawbs - 0

Dinner:

No idea. Something with CHICKEN!

Happy Friday... drink lots of water!!

Puppies and Baking

I had a little impromtu baking session last night. You see, when I got home from work last night I guess I didn't close the back gate all the way. And when it's nice out we just leave the kitchen door open for the pups to run in and out (and yes some bugs, but it's worth it to not have to keeping letting Maddie and Fiona in or out). So anyway, I'm making dinner and the house phone rings. I didn't recognize the name so I ignored it thinking it was someone calling for Ar. Then the same number called my cell phone and I was like jeepers who is this?? So I answered and it was a woman and she asked me if I lived in Old Stone Crossing, then if I had a chocolate lab. I immediately looked in the backyard and saw the gate was open!!! I freaked -- the woman was like and do you have a fluffy black dog as well? She had both of them and was asking where I lived so she could bring them to me. Well.... I walked outside and she was LITERALLY in the front yard. So miss Maddie and Fiona didn't stray too far -- but thank GOODNESS the woman called!!!! I was so flustered that I just sort of corralled the pups into the back yard and didn't even ask their names or anything -- just said thank you and ran away. BUT then I realized the name came up on the house phone caller ID so I went to the Old Stone Crossing Directory online and found where they live... so I made them cupcakes last night and I'll bring them over tonight to thank them. But of course I wasn't going to bring them 24 cupcakes!!! So I made 12 big cupcakes (8 for them). Ar ate one of the big ones and I put the other 3 away. Then I made 24 mini cupcakes and brought them to work today. I just ate one but won't have anymore! Whew... so hopefully that baking session didn't sabotage me TOO much.

After ALL of that excitement and baking I got up the energy to go to the gym. I did day 2 of week 5 on the Couch to 5k. 5 min warm up, run for 8 min, walk for 5, run for 8, 5 min cool down. Cripes it was hard. And I kept thinking next time I need to KEEP RUNNING for 20 min straight. I'm really going to give it my best on Fri, but if I can't do it I'll just keep at it until I can. So when I'm ready to quit someone send this to me :) Also... I have NO idea how I'll run at all after just swimming 1/2 mile and biking 18 miles. HA! Whos idea was this triathlon again???

In other, completely unrelated news, I'm wearing a cute dress today :)

Menu is all out of whack. I had a bad lunch... well yummy, but not healthy. A few people took me out for admin professionals week or whatever. Honestly I didn't even know that was this week and I tried to convince them not to take me out, but I lost. And a DIFFERENT group of people are taking me out tomorrow. I feel horrible because I'd so much rather just stay at work and eat my healthy lunch then take my lunch break to run some errands. But alas, they are being nice and I should appreciate it. Just hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get a salad or something! I'm going to gain a million pounds this week if I keep this up!

I think I have Trainer Boy tonight but forgot to check his book last night. So I'll go at 7 and keep my fingers crossed! He better have me on the schedule... I've missed being sore all over!

Weekend Rewind

The bachelorette rocking out

Four cousins on the subway

Dinner at Vynl

So I was in NYC/North Jersey all weekend. I thought I did pretty well... considering the circumstances... and hopped on the scale last night to see it was up SEVEN POUNDS!!!! Yikes! I'm sure a lot of it is being bloated, but I need to be EXTRA good this week to see a loss!!! It didn't help that last night I had a lack of protein headache (even though I had bacon and eggs at a very NJ Diner for breakfast). At 3am I woke up in SO much pain (I had a headache when I got in bed but hoped it would go away) so I got up and took 3 advil and ate a HUGE spoonful of peanut butter. NICE! I'm sure that fat is just sitting on my thighs right now. HA!

Ok so to start of the weekend my flight was super delayed. They canceled the two flights before mine and I thought they were going to cancel mine too. I thought they were going to cancel mine too, but we finally took off at 10:30. We were supposed to leave at 8. We had been on the plan since 9. I got in at 12:15am, and my aunt picked me up (and had been circling the airport since 10:45 because continentals sight was wrong and said thats when we were getting in!!!!! I felt so bad). Got to my aunt's house and was asleep by 1am. My alarm went off at 9:30 and get this. I got up, put on my workout clothes and went to the basement! I did day 3 of week 2 couch to 5k AND lifted! She has 8lb weights so I did my arms! TB would have been so proud. So I got in a good hour long workout. I showered and then my younger cousin (Glori... Glo for short) and I were off to the foodstore to get stuff. God my aunt -- she said "Jeannie, just put it all on Glo's credit card and I'll take care of it" so we had a FIELD day in Whole Foods. Got 3 kinds of cheese, nuts, grapes, pineapple salsa, guac, chips and fancy pink lemonade and tangerine sodas. We got back to to my aunt's around 1:30 and she made us pancakes with a fruit compote (more on that later). They were yummy. I had 3 since I hadn't eaten anything and knew I wouldn't eat much more til Annies (the bachelorette herself!) at 5. Not too bad, right? Ok.

Off we went to Re's apt (Re would be Annie. Her full name is AnneMarie and her nickname as a baby was ReRe... which I brought back a few years ago. She is so thankful ha!). So Re had her apt all cleaned and we got the food set up and ready. Her apt is small, but for NY its pretty big. I ate my fair share of apps, but didn't go super overboard. I also had some of the sangria someone brought (it was peach and made with white wine and super yummy) and 1 glass of champagne. Other than that I drank water. We had a fun time at Re's apt playing games and it was a great ice breaker. There were only 7 of us, but it was perfect. Around 8:45 we headed out for dinner. Got uptown and there was NO wait for a table at dinner! The place was so cool -- Vynl on 51st and 9th I think. Splitting the check up not including Re it was $16 per person. For NY? That's dirt cheap!!! I got a grilled cheese and it came with home made chips. I ate like 6 bites of the grilled cheese as I wasn't that hungry and like TWO of the chips. I was so proud for not eating it because it was there. I also drank like 64 glasses of water because each bathroom has a theme -- Dolly Parton, Cher, Nelly (random I know), and I forget who the last one was. But I wanted to try them all out. ha! After that we went across the street to VinTage a wine/martini bar. I just had water there and everyone enjoyed a cockail. It was a cool place but our waitress sucked. We left there around 11:45, took a cab uptown to Re's house.

I helped her clean up, and then Glo and I went back to Jersey! I was in bed at 1:35am. And WIDE AWAKE AT 8:15!!! I then got up and showered, got my stuff packed up and went downstairs and had a cup of tea and watched ESPN.... I can't believe UNC lost.... tragic.

Finally people started waking up, by the time Glo got showered it was noon. We headed out to a Diner for breakfast and then they dropped me at the airport. Flight was on time, I was in my house by 5pm and hit up the foodstore and all of that Sunday fun. I wanted to get to bed by 10 but didn't get to bed til 11. I'm dragging today, but it's ok. At least it's not raining here. Today high of 60, tomorrow 64, Wednesday 74!!!! And by Friday we're in the 80s. HOLLA!!!!!!

Since I didn't have the energy to whip up a batch of pumpkin waffles last night I made my own fruit compote for the week! I just got a bag of frozen berries, a little bit of water and a tsp of sugar. Bring the water and sugar to a boil and add in the fruit. Then just let it simmer on med/low until it was thick. It took like 20 min and I just stirred it from time to time. So today I have eggos for breakfast but will add a fruit serving with my compote! I packed up a little bit of it and will heat it up in the micro. I can't wait!!!

Ok menu time!

Bfast:
2 eggos and fruit compote - 3

Lunch:
pb&j - 3
yogurt - 2
fruit salad - 1

Snacks:
celery - 0
crackers and babybel light - 3
sf pudding if needed (hopefully not though) - 1

Dinner:
I'm thinking pasta with rotis. chicken a little bit of red sauce and TONS of veggies (spinach, asparagus, peps, onions, broc) - 7

I'll have 4 points to play with, so thats not bad! NO FLEX POINTS TODAY!!!!

Gym after dinner -- I'll do day one of week THREE on the couch to 5k and abs. My quads are still sore from Thurs. Gotta love TB!

HAPPY MONDAY!

4.04.2008

Friday Fun Day!

I was a bit of a failure this morning and didn't get up to go to the gym. Booooo. I won't be able to go tonight as I have to be at the airport at 7 (flying to NYC for my cousin's bach party).... but I did get up early enough to get to work by 8:15 and did a lap and a half around the lake. Not too shabby. At least it's something. Also, I'm staying at my aunt's house (my cousin lives in a tiny apt in NYC with a cat... and I'm allergic so that wouldn't be pretty) and she has a treadmill, so I'm thinking tomorrow morning I'll try to get up early and do day 3 of week 2 for the couch to 5k. Though Trainer Boy worked by quads and glutes like NOBODYS business last night. He was in rare, hyper form... which means a fun but HARD workout for me. He went over 5 minutes... and 5 extra minutes with him feels like an hour (though I'm happy to get the free 5 minutes haha). I did the treadmill when I was done and literally my legs were like jelly. But I walked for 20 minutes and they felt better. I have a feeling I'm going to be super sore tomorrow as day 2 is always the worst, but I figure if I get up and do a run/walk it'll loosen them up a bit. Here's hoping!!

I weigh in at 12:30. I'm scared. I have not had the best week for food. But I did workout Mon-Thursday. Also I usually weigh in on an empty stomach RIGHT when I wake up wearing gym clothes (which weigh nothing).... so everything will be off a bit. I can handle a 1 lb gain... but hopefully nothing more than that. I'll keep you posted!!

Bfast:
milk chocolatey ovaltine (im obsessed!) - 2.5
pumpkin waffs - 3

Lunch:
leftovers! couscous - 2
meatloaf muffins - 4

Snacks:
turkey on light EM - 2
1/2 cup strawbs - 0.5
dry life cereal - 2

Dinner:
No idea -- something quick before I head to the airport.

This weekend will be a challenge -- but I should be ok today and Sunday. Saturday I'll try not to eat too many snacks and will make as good a choice as I can at dinner. As I have to drive out of the city afterwards that will certainly keep me from drinking (not that that's a challenge for me). Sometimes I wish you couldn't have ice cream and brownies and drive!! Now THAT would be reason enough to be the designated driver. ha!

I fly in around 4:30 on Sunday so I'll have time to hit up the grocery store and get situated for next week.... when it's going to hopefully be sunny and warm!

Awesomeness

Today is going to be an awesome day... I just know it! A few reasons....

- I woke up and it was already 59 degrees (going up to 79!)
- I didn't get up early to go for a walk, BUT I got to work early enough to walk around the lake when I first got here! So I've already walked a mile. I had my iPod and rocked out to some tunes while enjoying the early morning sunshine.
- I'm wearing a nice t-shirt, jeans and a new pair of FLIP FLOPS!
- I checked my email and had two e-gift certificates from Ar's parents for my bday! Macy's and Target here I come!
- The PENGUIN for lunch today
- Hopefully scooting out of work early

Anyway... enough of my morning happies. Let's back up to last night. I made pizza for dinner. It was SO SO good, and not all that unhealthy. I had a thin whole wheat crust that is 3 points for 1/4 of it (and it's 12 inches). I diced up red peppers, turkey pep and spinach. Put on a little bit of sauce, a little bit of cheese, toppings and then a little more cheese. HEAVENLY! I cut it into 8 pieces (so 2 would have been a serving) and I had 3 pieces. Also, I finished dinner at 6:15 and didn't eat anything else the rest of the night. HUGE score.

Then I went to the gym. I swear Trainer Boy has hacked into my emails because what did we do?? CORE!!!! Because I JUST sent an email to my WW buddies this week about how I need to work on core more. Well yeah, he usually just does core once in a while because it's pretty basic and the exercises don't change all that much. But for some reason he thought we should do core, and it was horribly obvious that I hadn't been doing it. He has me to sit ups on the bench (like with my legs up on the bar if that makes sense), and I did the first set FINE but after that I literally could only do like 2 at a time. Soooo I have to start doing that more. I WANT to be able to do them. And I want to be able to be like PSSHT no problem the next time we do core together. And my punishment for not having done that at all? CALVES! I told him I had to be able to walk on Sat cause it was my bday. But I'm still scared that I'm going to be laid up again like I was last time. Granted I've done them a few times on my own since then but we shall see. I stretched out a lot last night so hopefully that will help too. When TB was done kicking my butt I did 30 minutes on the treadmill. I was watching the UNC game because it had just started and at one point I was paying such close attention to the game I almost fell off the treadmill!!! Granted I recovered, but let's just say the people around me had a good chuckle. It was really funny. But UNC dominated so that was good. Too bad I'm in LAST place in my family pool.

My bike is still without wheels, so no ride after work. Boo. I guess I'll go to the gym and do the treadmill and elliptical or bike again. BLAH. I'm thinking I'll do some leg work too since it's always empty on Fridays. My goal for next week is to get to the gym TWO times in the morning. This way I can lift (and do my stinkin abs) in peace. That place is desolate in the mornings. I love it!

Menu!!!

Breakfast:
choco milk YEAH - 3
life cereal - 3

Lunch:
Penguin - approx 15325626 points

Snack:
fruit if I need it

Dinner:
Not sure - something light as I have to weigh in bright and early tomorrow morning on my birthday!

Avocado Love, Fried Pickles and Running

I did started the C25K podcast yesterday. It was really good. The music on it is a little techno-y for my liking, but it's worth it to not have to keep figuring out when you start and stop running. I did it without too much trouble, though at one point the guy was like, "ok you should be feeling the effects of your run, but you shouldn't be out of breath and you should be able to talk comfortably" HA HA HA! I was totally out of breath. I mean I could talk, but would certainly be gasping for some air. I actually laughed at that. I'm hoping to do it again tomorrow night. I'm working out with Trainer Boy tonight, so I don't think my legs will be in running shape after I lift. I'll do an easy walk or the elliptical after lifting and then get back to it tomorrow. Yeah! I am DETERMINED to be a runner. Even if I hate every darn second of it :)

As for dinner at Carrabbas last night.... it was a bit disastrous. I went to town on the bread. It was hot and warm and amazing. For the rest of my dinner I had the salmon with a basil tomato sauce on it and green beans for my side. It came with soup or salad and they had the sausage lentil soup for the special that I LOVE so I got that. I ate most of my soup and half of my entre. And then my weight in bread. I heart carbs. And you know what? I don't really feel guilty about it. I splurged at dinner last night but am right back on track today. I was tempted to have a snack at 10:30 last night because Ar was having one, but then I was like hold up - you are not hungry at all! So I didn't. So yes, I ate more than I would have liked, but the little victories are ordering salmon and not pizza or pasta in cream sauce, and getting veggies for my side instead of pasta or potatoes. Next time maybe I'll be able to resist the bread.... HA! AND, one of the girls knew my birthday was coming up (thanks to myspace haha) and she insisted on buying my dinner. So that was super sweet of her. Especially since the salmon was a bit pricey!

In other news... I just feel the need to mention how much I love avocado. Now I have a slight allergic reaction to it. Just makes me lips/tongue tingle a bit and my throat itch. It's the same thing that happens when I eat apples or melons. But for a lot of those foods I just think it's worth it to do with the consequences. And avocado CERTAINLY falls in that category. I just really love them. I'm eating my lunch right now and added some avocado to my salad and it just makes the meal. I can't believe the first 20 some years of my life I had no idea how yummy they were!

Also, it's cake day at work, and I feel somewhat obliged to have a piece, since it's my birthday month. I had a VERY small piece of the chocolate cake, it was heavenly but was literally like 2 bites. I tried to tell them not to get me a cake, but we have another March birthday and she's a TOTAL princess and actually requests a very SPECIFIC kind of cake and throws a fit if people get any other kind. Totally ridiculous. But whatever. So I had my small piece of bday cake and added the points in so I'm golden!

Tomorrow people from work are taking me to The Penguin for lunch. Which might prove to be a disaster. The place is amazing. And has been featured on The Food Networks "Diners, Drive Ins and Dives." Amazing burgers, sweet potato fries, regular fries, fried pickles..... but I will just be good the rest of the day. It's also supposed to go up to 79 tomorrow so I'm hoping to get a bike ride in (if wheels somehow get put on my bike tonight... hint hint).

Ok todays menu....

Bfast:
cinnamon life cereal w/ 1/2 cup milk - 3
SMALL piece of bday cake - 3

Lunch:
tastes of food at Trader Joes - 3
salad with baby spinach, peppers, tomatoes, 1 oz light cheddar, 2 oz avocado, 3 wheat thins crushed up, ff balsamic - 4

Snacks:
1/2 banana, strawberries, fat free whipped cream (yes I did pack the entire can of redi whip in my lunch bag) - 1
1/2 whole wheat pita with egg salad (1/2 the yolk, 1 egg, 2 tsp light mayo) - 2

Dinner:
I have NO idea. I'm thinking maybe burgers because it's going up to 75... so grilling would be fun. so maybe:
5 oz burger - 5
avocado - 1
light EM - 1
grilled asparagus - 0

3.26.2008

I slacked a bit last night. I got home and made the chicken cakes (which came out really good) with some whole wheat cous cous and asparagus. Dinner was delish! But I was planning on going to the gym after dinner and I just did NOT have the energy or motivation. I finally talked myself into going, got changed and went. Usually that's the hardest part. But I just couldn't get into the gym last night. I did 20 minutes on the bike and then only lasted 10 on the treadmill. But it's still better than not going at all, right? Then I came home and even though I decided I wasn't going to eat anything else, I broke down and had fruit with ff whipped cream. Again, better than say ice cream (which is really what I wanted haha).

Today I'm back on track and ready to go! I'm meeting up with people at Carrabbas for dinner tonight. YIKES! They don't have ANY nutritional info online. Argh. And a lot of their grilled stuff comes with sauces. And the salmon is like 17 bucks!!!! So annoying. After poring over the menu, I think I've decided on this: "CHICKEN GRATELLA - Grilled chicken breast basted with olive oil and herbs." I've been trying to eat light throughout the day (thought it's not going totally as planned) and have my gym bag packed. I figure I can get in 30-45 minutes at the gym and go straight to dinner from there. I may be smelly, but I'm over it.

And spring has certainly sprung here! It's currently 70 and sunny. We just did a walk around the lake (1 mile). Tomorrow it's going up to 75, and I've heard rumors of 80 for Friday! I might have to scoot out a few minutes early. If it's not raining on Saturday I hope to spend a lot of the day outside.

Menu time!

Bfast:
cinnamon life w/ 1/2 cup milk - 3
yoplait light thick and creamy - 2

Lunch:
salad w/ a few nuts, peppers, cucumbers, tomato and ff dressing - 1
Smoothie King Pineapple pleasure - 3
Kashi waffle (random, but I was still hungry) - 1

Snacks:
strawberries - 0
100 cal popcorn - 1
pb bliss bar - 1

Dinner:
Carrabbas! I'll try to stay away from pasta, potatoes, cream sauces and bread! We'll see how it goes....

Back to Reality

On Saturday I really don't think I ate a single thing that WASNT fried. I had a friend visiting from out of town, and well, it was just bad. I also went to my meeting EARLY in the morning on Sat and was up 1.6. Which is ok. It was the drive and I deserved the gain. I just need to get it all back under control this week! I did ok yesterday -- I had dinner at 6:30 and then didn't eat anything else the rest of the night. Which was SOOOOO hard.. but I did it! So hopefully I'm over the hard part. hahaha. Yesterday I made individual puddings, hard boiled eggs, a few pasta lunches and vitamuffins. So I'm certainly stocked for the week.

This week will be hard with birthday cake and lunches out (my bday is on Sat!)
-- but I just kept thinking on Saturday night how much of a better feeling it is to make GOOD choices and to LOSE weight than to have a burger and fries. I'm armed and ready for today!!

I'm packed and ready to hit up the gym after work. I'm hoping to get in a hard cardio workout since I haven't been since Friday. I REALLY wanted to go yesterday but the gym was closed for Easter. I mean REALLY! haha.

Menu time....

Bfast:
choco milk - 3 (I can't wait for the day when I can drink straight up milk)
cinnamon life - 3

Lunch (it's a BIG lunch)
smart pasta w/ meat sauce, onions, peppers, broc and spinach - 5
free salad w/ a few cashews - 2 (thats an overestimation, but i figure better to go over)

Snacks:
pudding w/ strawberries - 1
chocolate vitamuffin - 1

Dinner:
Not sure -- I'm thinking maybe a HUGE salad w/ leftover rotisserie chicken, avocado, baby spinach, cashews, peppers, etc.... we shall see. - 6 or so

That's 21 points so I'll have 3 more points to play with.

Ok - Easter is over and we have a break from basketball for a while so lets all get back on track!!! Happy Monday!

It's Drive Time

It's that time of year again... the time where those of us who work in public broadcasting beg for money. It's also the time where there is an obscene amount of food here at work. Between now and next Thursday I'll probably work about 75 hours. And breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks will be served. Todays lunch is burgers and hotdogs from Bad Dog. They sent over every topping under the sun:

FIVE kinds of cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, a huge thing of bacon crisp strips, BBQ sauce, honey mustard, ranch dressing, coleslaw, hot sauce, teryaki sauce, four kinds of mustard, chili, pickles... the list goes on and on. I ran out of room on the counter! And then pasta salad, potato salad and chips.

But I brought a yummy salad -- I refuse to gain weight during this drive!!! I passed on bagels this morning for breakfast and will pass on the burger extravaganza. I also have a little piece of leftover homemade pizza from Friday. I figure it's going to go bad soon if it hasn't already so I should eat it. YUM!!!

Dinner tonight is from Duke Mansion. It's a nice B&B here, and I'll partake in that because its always quite decadent (and somewhat healthy)!

I've been at work since 6:30 and will be here til about 6:30... when I'll rush over to the gym and work out with Trainer Boy. I hope I'm still standing by the time I'm done with this day! Ha!

If I'm MIA for a bit, I'll be back after the drive is over. But not to worry I'll be chugging water and packing healthy snacks as best I can. And I won't miss my WW meeting on Sat either. I refuse!!

3.10.2008

Got Milk?

I had a good weekend, but for some reason I thought I could eat whatever the heck I darn well pleased. I didn't do TOO badly (still have 21 flex points left), but could have done so much better. Oh well -- I'm ready to make a fresh start today! And I lost 0.2 pounds this week. Not much at all... but it wasn't a gain and I've now lost 8 pounds since I started in December. VERY slow going, but I'm fine with it. That's over 2 pounds a month so if I can keep that up for a year then that's 24 pounds. I'll take it! If it takes me 2 years to get the weight of so be it. This isn't a race, right?

In other news -- this week I've decided to try to really focus on the WW healthy guidelines. At my meeting someone said something that made a lot of sense: "Get all your boxes checked off first, THEN eat the chocolate cookie." So I'm going to try that. Get all my fruits, veggies, MILK (which is SO hard for me), and some water out of the way FIRST. Then I'll have some treats. So when I'm hungry for a snack have a yogurt (for a milk serving) instead of a 100 cal pack. We'll see how this goes. I've discovered my love for STEAMERS this weekend. Just steamed milk with a flavor shot. Get a sugar free flavor shot and skim milk and it's only 3 points for a tall! I had to stop at Harris Teeter (our foodstore -- AKA the Teeter) this morning to get chips for lunch for work (more on that later) and theres a Starbucks in it. So I started my day off with a big ole dose of calcium! 3 points seems like a lot but it really did fill me up!

As for lunch at work today -- we have our pre-drive kick off lunch. Sammies and cookies from Jimmy Johns and Cape Cod potato chips (which I picked up this morning). SOOO tempting. BUT... I don't need it. I packed a perfectly good lunch! I might have ONE piece of a veggie sammy with no cheese. But we will see. DEF no cookies or chips. They are NOT in my healthy guidelines! And as for food at work, the drive starts on Thursday so there will be 8 days with constant meals provided. I'm really going to try to be good this time. Still bring my breakfast and lunch and maybe just have a little bit. Or pick 2 or 3 meals during the drive that I will splurge on... instead of all 24!!! Like I know Mama Fus pad thai I can't resist so I'll plan accordingly that day. But BK for breakfast? I can totally pass up their sammies. But wish me luck, I've been dreading it for weeks!!!!

Also -- today I'm hitting up the gym after work. I must must MUST get in lots of cardio this week EVEN though as of Thursday I'll be working 12 hours days. I saw Trainer Boy there on Saturday and as soon as he saw me walking over he was like "Hey! I'm doing calves today want to join me???" I guess he got my text cursing him out last week because I couldn't walk. He was cracking up when I told him I had to wear heels all week, even when I was hanging out at home in my PJs.

Ok, today's menu!

Bfast:
Steamer - 3
Kashi waffles (I didn't make any pumpkin waffles this weekend!!!!) - 3

Lunch:
salad: baby spinach, 3 colors of pepers, pear, 1/2 oz feta, and a few cashews with ff dressing - 3
small piece of veggie sammy - 4

Snacks:
fruit salad - 1
yogurt - 2

Dinner:
Chicken and Pasta bake - 5

Weekend Update

As for my weekend update I'll do bullet style

1) Got my haircut on Sat -- it looks really cute! But SHORT! I have to blow it out every morning which will get old SOON. Oh well, it forces me to look nice which is good, no more falling back on a ponytail
2) I literally could not walk on Sat. I was in SO much pain from my trainer on Thurs it was horrible. I looked like I had a physical disability. It was so terrible. I had to walk hunched over and on my toes... try to imagine that. Ar is STILL making fun of me. Yesterday I realized I could walk in heels so I wore heals throughout the house all day long. It was funny, but at least I wasn't in pain. Also means I haven't been to the gym since THURS! Hopefully I'll be back in action tomorrow. I may never EVER do calf raises again.
3) Ar got a new car this weekend. Yes... ANOTHER new car. As in she got her truck a year ago. She's been griping about it for a while now -- how she just doesn't like it. She thought she was going to love it -- but she hates it. Too much gas. It's big. She can't park it. Etc etc. It's been a small point of contention. But she finally was just like I understand you think it's crazy for me to trade it in and get a new car -- but I can't stand my truck. She got a used AUDI! Yes, apparently my name is Elle Woods and we're loaded. It actually was an amazing deal and her payments are less than the truck so that's exciting. And it's just a 4 year payment plan -- since she had a 5 year plan on the truck I guess it all evens out. But to say that I was pissed at first would be an understatement. We've worked through it though.
4) I lost TWO pounds this week. I think I am firmly in the 180s now... at least I'm hoping! WOOOOOHOOOOOO! I ate out a jillion meals and still lost! I guess not ordering fries DOES pay off. How about that?
5) I'm officially obsessed with my pumpkin waffles. I made another batch yesterday and just had them for breakfast. IN LOVE!
6) I made a really yummy salmon dinner last night. I made this recipe w/ couscous. And I added a ton more veggies into the packet. It was DELISH!
7) I planned out all of our dinners for this week and am really hoping to stick to it!

Ok... I think that's about it. OH! And I made Roni's Tortilla-less Tortilla soup this weekend. 0 points for 4 servings. In my opinion it's a million times better than WW's . SO good. I have it for lunch today. Mmmm. Ok menu time...

Breakfast:
PUMPKIN YUMMIES! - 3

Snack:
fruit salad - 1

Lunch:
spicy soup - 0
1/2 oz of cheese and some light sour cream - 2
crackers - 1

Snacks:
toasted light EM - 1
WW cookies - 2
hostess 100 cal pack - 1

Dinner:
5 oz hamburger w/ cheese - 6
TJs WW pita - 1
corn on the cob - 2
broccoli - 0

Snack:
not sure, but something for 2 or 3 points

No gym today as I'm still not 100% but maybe a walk with the pups after dinner as it's going up to 71 today! YIPPEE!

Stuff

Last night I went right to the gym after work... got in a good 40 minutes of cardio. Did treadmill for 30 minutes and then 10 on the bike. And it was a hard 10 minutes. Then Ar and I went out for dinner... Thai House. It was super yummy. We got steamed spring rolls w/ tofu -- yummy and not fried!!! I just ate a few bites of that. And I got pad thai. It was HEAVY on the veggies so that was good. I counted it as 14 points. It's a total estimate, but I figure it was somewhat accurate. According to ww.com 1 cup = 9 points and I ate a little over a cup and then some of the spring roll. I also haven't been eating my APs this week. So I'm hoping that will counteract any wrong estimates.

Today is a new day! I have a dermotologist appointment at 2:45 and I'm not going back to work after it. Yippee! So I'm hoping to maybe get to the gym a few minutes early, we shall see though with traffic. My appt is on the other side of town. So with rush hour it might be 5:15 by the time I get back anyway. Oh well, better than sitting at my desk. So gym after the derm and then NOTHING tonight. I'm pumped. I'm going to make a yummy dinner (perhaps burgers and potato fries) and get some cleaning done. And maybe catch up on the millions of shows I have DVRed!

Menu today..

Bfast:
pumpkin waffles - 3

Snack:
yogurt - 2

Lunch:

barilla plus pasta w/ homemade sauce and meatball - 6

Snack:
two pieces of choc covered apple - 2
fruit leather - 1

Dinner:
5 oz lean burger - 4.5
TJs whole wheat pita - 1
Kraft single - 1
baked 'fries' - 2.5

Which doesn't give me many veggies for today. Maybe I'll sautee some onions and peppers to put on top of my burger. Either way.... that's 23 points so I'll have a 1 point snack before bed. Perfecto! No flexies being used today and PLENTY of protein. I needed to drink gallons of water today to flush out all of the sodium I had yesterday.

2.26.2008

Jeepers, I didn't realize I hadn't posted in so long! So let's see.

First off -- I was up a bit this week. 0.8 to put me back in the 190s and 190.4. I'm ok with it though. Hopefully I'll see a loss this week. As far as this week is going I've been doing pretty well. My routine has been off, but I've still be trying to track all of my points. I'll get back to the gym tonight after work so that's good.

I got a new computer at work today, so I'm beyond pumped about that.

So yes, that's all I've got for today! Here's me menu...

Bfast:
Pumpkin waffles - 3

Snack:
fat free pringles - 1

Lunch:
noodle bowl w/ steamed veggies at Sushi 101 - 7

Snack:
fruit salad - 1

Dinner:
Not sure -- but I'll have plenty of points!

2.21.2008

Big Daddy's

Dinner last night was awesome. I got there and Lily and Bo were already there and had a table. No wait? Could it be true!? I was pumped. So I sat down. Ar didn't think she was going to be able to make it as she had a meeting at 7:30 so she thought it might be cutting it close if we had to wait. I called Ar and told her we had a table -- she decided to come as she was in the neighborhood. We then needed to switch tables, but the wait staff was perfectly accommodating and didn't mind at all. Whew! The tables were a bit close, but other than that the atmosphere was great. Typical burger joint. Laminated menus, black and white checkerboard floor and walls. Loved it.

They apparently have 40 some beers on tap, which didn't get me pumped but Bo and Ar partook in the fun. Your burger comes with a side of either: french fries, sweet potato fries, tater tots, onion straws, or a chopped salad. Ar, Lily and I decided we'd all get something different and share. Ar got onion straws, Lily got sweet potato fries and I got regulars. They all came with different dipping sauces as well. Amazing!!! But let's back up. My burger. You can upgrade to Kobe beef which some did, but I decided I was ok with regular ground beef. ha! Ar got one of the "favorites" -- it was a patty melt of sorts served on texas toast. I, of course, had to create my own. For the bun you could chose between regular, wheat, lettuce wrap or texas toast. They had I think 12 or so cheeses. Then all sorts of condiments and sauces, freebies (like lettuce, onions, pickles, etc) and then premium toppings (fried egg, bacon, avocado, onion straws etc). I went with a regular burger, on whole wheat bun with monterey jack cheese, sauteed onions, avocado and chipotle ranch sauce. I know it doesn't sound low cal at all. The burger wasn't too big. It was a reasonable size. They didn't over do it on the sauce which was nice. And... it was DIVINE! As for the sides -- I think the sweet potato fries were my favorite. I mean I LOVE onion straws and w/ a bbq dipping sauce they were perfect too. And the normal french fries had a little spice which was a welcome treat as well.

For a healthier option they also have a build your own salad. I seriously might try that next time they have ALL sorts of yummies to put in there and amazing dressings.

So overall.... I'd give it 4.5 stars out of 5. (the .5 off is for the closeness of the tables).

I ate my whole burger and just some tastes of the sides. I wasn't stuffed and estimated it to be about 20 points. Not sure how accurate that is, but oh well. I had 14 points so I ended up only using 6 flexies. After dinner I went straight to the gym. I really didn't want to. And I only did 30 minutes, but it was better than nothing. I got home by 8:30 and made a batch of pumpkin waffles! YUM, I love them so so so so much. Mmmmmm!

Ok menu time!

Bfast:
2 pumpkin waffles - 3

Lunch Out:
chicken and rice soup - 3
salad of greens, cucumbers, toasted pumpkin seeds and dressing on the side - 3

Snacks:
M&Ms (woops) - 2
fat free pringles - 1
fruit salad - 1

Dinner... I sort of grazed through it:
TJs spearin risotto - 4
pumpkin waffle - 2
rice cake w/ pb and jelly - 3

Snack:
pb bliss bar - 1
pretzels - 2

I only have 3 flex points left for the week, but have only eaten 5 out of my 14 APs for the week so that's good. Hopefully I'll see a loss on Saturday. If not a loss at least a maintain.

I worked out with Trainer Boy today. I know I won't be able to walk tomorrow. Squats, lunges, dead lifts... fun stuff! Then I did 30 min on the treadmill. SUPER slow since I really and honestly could barley walk. But he totally challenged me to do it and I can't let him win. So I did it. Woohoo!

Ok time to take a shower and then read before bed.

Tomorrow is FRIDAY!
